The BLU ZONE
The BLU Zone is the vision and dream of owner Tony Troppe. A profoundly passionate ambassador of the arts and jazz music, he set out on a quest to develop a suitable venue where others could gather to appreciate the sounds and history of jazz music, enjoy a delicious meal, and afterward, stay the night in a place that speaks to the culture that surrounds jazz music throughout the decades.
The BLU Zone brings together BLU Jazz+ Nightclub, BLU Social (coming soon), and BLU-Tique Hotel Akron, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, to form a triad of independent venues harmonically linked through jazz, rhythm, and blues.
A UNIQUE PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
BLU-Tique Hotel Akron, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is the only hotel inside the city and the only one in Northeast Ohio with an eye trained on jazz, blues, and soul. Guests experience our revolutionary concept whenever they enter their room or cross the street to BLU Social (opening soon) and the speakeasy-inspired BLU Jazz+ Nightclub.
An Experience That Transcends Time
The United 1 Building, which is now home to BLU-Tique Hotel Akron, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel and The 1 Food & Spirits, sits on the most prominent corner in Akron's Historic Arts District.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building served as the United Cigar Store Company headquarters in 1923. It was designed in a Neo-classical Revival style and built to help the numerous businesses around the neighboring bank and Portage Hotel. The United Cigar Stores, chosen for their locations, were the place to be for enjoying a cigar, shopping, dining, and entertainment.
The Era of Jazz
Each era tells a story. The city of Akron offers a rich history in arts and commerce that even the most seasoned historian would appreciate.
There is no more critical era to the town of Akron than that of the 1930s. The jazz of this tremendous musical period would take hold and never let go of the city. Iconic artists like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dizzy Gillespie would forever leave their mark and pave the way for a superior music scene that is now deeply rooted in this great city.

The story of Akron’s historic arts district has evolved throughout the years. Along with that, the United 1 Building has seen significant changes. Now that the building has been transformed into our hotel, it offers a unique experience where culture, art, dining, music, and diversity seamlessly blend to create an experience like no other.

Our hotel is only 14 miles from Akron-Canton Regional Airport. When you land, follow our directions and arrive at the front door in a matter of minutes. Our hotel is in the historic United 1 Building on the left.
