Almost a 100 years ago in the 1920’s as the legacy of great jazz was blooming, the new modern jazz age was influencing people across the country, landing on the door step of Akron, Ohio as Jazz legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, & Ella Fitzgerald made their way west from New York to Chicago.
The now historic United 1 Building, situated on the corner of Main & Market in downtown Akron and originally built for the United Cigar Store Company in 1923, was the place to be for enjoying a cigar, shopping, dining, and entertainment during this era.
Throughout the years, the story of Akron’s art’s district has evolved. And so has the United 1 Building, now the home of the new BLU-Tique Hotel Akron, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, in the heart of downtown’s still thriving Jazz music scene.
